Commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated on December 3, a seminar for headmasters and management representatives was held at the conference hall of the Gomant Vidya Niketan, Margao on Friday.
“The seminar, based on the theme ‘celebrating diversity: let’s make schools accessible for all children’ sought to sensitize educationists that every child should be provided an opportunity to be educated in a regular school. The seminar sought to emphasize that regular schools should open their doors to all children, irrespective of their abilities or disabilities. Since we live in a society and interact with people of abilities and disabilities, this inclusion should begin right from school,” Sangath co-ordinator Shreyas Kamat informed TOI.
The key note speaker for the conference was Giselle Lobo, founder of Towards Inclusion of Everyone in Society (TIES), who spoke on the experiences on inclusion in Goa. Two young speakers, Ishan Kamat and Rucha Prabhudessai also narrated their views on the subject.
Participants from 170 schools in South Goa district attended the seminar organized jointly by the Goa sarva shiksha abhiyan (GSSA), Sangath and Colorccon Asia pvt ltd, Verna. The seminar was inaugurated by GSSA state project director Anil Powar.
