Goa University to introduce weekend Konkani course from next academic year
PANAJI: The Goa University (GU) will conduct a certificate course in Konkani proficiency on weekends to help assimilate the non-Konkani speaking population with the locals. Besides aiding the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing Konkani, the programme will also ‘impart knowledge of Konkani culture and history’ and ‘inculcate love and affection towards the Konkani language among non-Konkani speakers’.
The programme will have an intake of 25 students and will be open to anyone who holds a graduate degree from the Goa University or any other recognised university, with a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent grades. Students will be chosen on the basis of their score at the graduate level.
Admission to the weekend course will commence in June every academic year, and classes will begin from July. The duration of the programme will be one academic year and will comprise two semesters.
“If the need arises, a regular course of one semester shall be conducted with regular classes,” the university has stated in its notification.
Individuals will have to visit the university’s website to enrol for the course. A fee of Rs 4,000 will be charged per student.
