Panaji: The dates for the 2016 Class X and XII public exams have been declared by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. While the Class XII exams will begin on February 29, 2016, the Class X exams will start from April 1.
The process of registration for the exams is still on, but around 16,000 students are expected to answer the Class XII and another 21,000 are set to appear for the Class X exams of 2016.
The dates are nearly the same as for the 2015 board exams. “Since 2016 is a leap year, we decided to take advantage of the additional day and start the Class XII exams on February 29, rather than on March 1,” Goa Board chairperson Jose Remedios Rebello said.
While the Class XII exams are held across 13 centres around Goa, the Class X exams are conducted through 24 centres.
From 2012, Goa Board has brought the state’s public exam schedule on par with that of national boards, to make it convinient for Goan students to prepare for national entrance exams for IITs, BITS etc after Class XII.
The board in recent years has also started conducting the Class X and XII exams parallel to one another to reduce the period during which premises of schools across Goa and school teachers are utilized for the conduct of the public the exams.
Since the introduction of the no-fail policy under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Goa, nearly all students qualified to be promoted up to ClassVIII. This policy has led to a very high number of students answering the Class X and XII board exams since.
